At The Kimmel Institute we use Palomar Medical Technologies cosmetic laser treatments and intense pulsed light (IPL) systems to dramatically improve the appearance of the skin. Usually several treatment sessions are advised over a period of a few months.
Photorejuvenation Treatment
Photo rejuvenation uses an optimized light device to deliver energy into the skin, targeting vascular and pigmented lesions, which slowly disappear as the body’s natural healing process progresses. Indication for this includes sunspots, age spots, rosacea, spider veins, and capillaries.
Laser Scar Treatment
Laser scar treatment uses “fractional” pulses of laser light to break down scar tissue and help generate healthy new tissue, lighter in color and more even in texture. The procedure can be performed in as little as 30 minutes, depending on the size of the treatment area. It is the more comfortable alternative to surgery for acne scars, with remarkable results on any skin type. Typical side effects include a temporary redness and swelling at the treatment site, which should last only a few days.
Stretch Mark Treatment
Pulses of fractional laser light are used to break down stretch marks, triggering new tissue production at the site and helping to improve stretch mark color. The new collagen can leave the stretch mark smoother in texture and reduce the appearance of the stretch mark on the skin. This treatment is ideal for all stretch marks on any skin type. It typically takes 30 minutes per session, with no downtime, yet it can deliver superior, long-lasting results.
Fractional Laser Skin Resurfacing
Fractional skin resurfacing with Palomar uses laser energy microbeams to target areas of affected tissue that extend through the epidermis into the dermis. The body’s natural healing process creates new, healthy tissue to replace the areas of affected tissue, resulting in healthier, younger-looking skin. Fractional skin resurfacing can improve the appearance of skin tone and texture, wrinkles, stretch marks, surgical and acne scars.
Permanent Hair Reduction
Permanent hair reduction is available for all skin types, including very light and dark skin. Light is used to target and destroy hair follicles responsible for hair growth without harming surrounding tissue, so there is minimal risk. Permanent hair reduction treatments can only affect hair in active phases of growth so several treatments are needed to effectively treat all the unwanted hair. Treatment sessions take jut a few minutes and are practically pain-free. Indicated for face, axilla, arms, legs, back, chest, and bikini areas. Most patients experience a mild, sunburn-like sensation, possibly accompanied by some minor swelling, immediately following the treatment, usually lasting 2 to 24 hours. Patient can resume regular daily activites immediately following treatment.
