Dr. Richard D. Kimmel
DO, FCCP, FACOS, RPhS
Dr. Richard Kimmel is the owner and founder of The Kimmel Institute, a premier vein treatment, laser and aesthetic practice located in Boca Raton.
A graduate of The Lawrenceville School, Emory University and the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, Dr Kimmel has maintained his Thoracic and Vascular Surgical practice in Boca Raton since 1991. His credentials and experience have made The Kimmel Institute a designated training center for other physicians and staff in the use of the Dornier Laser System for vein treatment.
Dr. Kimmel served as the President of The American College of Osteopathic Surgeons (ACOS) in 2013 – 2014. The ACOS is committed to assuring excellence in osteopathic surgical care through education, advocacy, leadership development, and the fostering of professional and personal relationships. In addition, he remains actively involved, both locally and nationally, in promoting better healthcare policies and practices through the ACOS, FOMA and the AOA.
Dr Kimmel has help previous positions with the ACOS including serving on the Board of Governors from 2006 through 2015. He was President-elect from 2012-13, President of the organization from 2013-2014, and Immediate Past President from 2014-15, when his term-limit expired. He is a Fellow of both the American College of Osteopathic Surgeons and the American College of Chest Physicians, and has held positions as a Clinical Investigator with the NIH, an Affiliate Member of the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center of the University of South Florida and as an Assistant Clinical Instructor for Surgery at the Nova-Southeastern University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Davie, FL. In addition, he has served on and held leadership positions at several local hospitals in committees such as Cancer Committee, Surgical Review Committee and Utilization Review Committee.
He and his exceptional staff provide the highest level of vein treatment knowledge, training, care and surgical experience available to the patients of South Florida.
Dr. Richard Kimmel’s staff includes Clara Lingerfeldt, RVT, and Melissa Briggs, RVT, both of whom are registered Vascular Ultrasound technologists who perform vascular ultrasound studies and assist with our office-based vein treatments. Dr. Kimmel and his staff, are all committed to providing the best quality of care possible, in a personalized and friendly setting.
Dr. Kimmel has more than 25 years of experience performing both thoracic and vascular surgeries and working with patients with a variety of vein disorders. He and his staff strive to provide effective, personal, and friendly vein care to all of their patients. As an established Boca vein doctor, Dr. Richard Kimmel is familiar with the South Florida area and through nearly three decades of practice has been able to establish lasting relationships with his patients and with the community.
Ultrasound Technologist – RVT, Office Manager
Originally from Colombia, Clara has the longest tenure with Dr. Kimmel as his lead ultrasound technologist. She recently took over as the office manager of the Kimmel Institute. She has an unsurpassed work ethic and is always looking out for the patient’s best interests. Her ultrasound skills are the result of many years of experience, and along with her understanding of the vascular system, provides excellent patient diagnostics. Clara has a strong sense of family and has a wonderful husband and two terrific children. She loves to bicycle ride, listen to all types of music and watch movies.
Ultrasonographer – RVT
Born and raised in Michigan, Melissa brings a cheerful Midwestern approach to the Kimmel Institute. Patients love her personality and find her very easy to talk to. But she also is a very experienced ultrasonographer and truly enjoys interacting with patients. These skills carry over into the procedures that she assists with the KI practitioners. She enjoys fitness, food and time with her husband, two young children and her goldendoodle.
Michelle was born and raised in Miami. As an experienced ultrasonographer, she is now focused on diagnostic venous ultrasonography at the Kimmel Institute. She brings to the office professionalism and a very friendly smile. When not at work she is enjoying nature, her beautiful dog, and travelling.
Medical Assistant – MA
As our front desk receptionist Claudia often provides our “first impression” with patients, either in person or on the phone. She is fluent in Spanish and her training as a medical assistant also provides her with the skills to positively interact with insurance companies on our patients’ behalf. Spending time with her husband, daughter and cooking are just a few things she enjoys.
