There are more treatment options than ever to remove these veins and eliminate discomfort.
The Effectiveness of Varicose Vein Treatment
There is now a wide range of treatment options for varicose veins. Your vein specialist at our practice will work with you to determine the best treatment to reduce or eliminate the appearance of your varicose veins. What are the treatment options for varicose veins?
In the past, painful and invasive vein stripping was the only effective treatment for varicose veins. Now, doctors have a wide range of minimally invasive treatment options to reduce or completely eliminate varicose veins. Treatment options include:- Ambulatory Microphlebectomy. This treatment, which is preformed under local anesthesia, involves making tiny incisions to remove large, visible veins. There is minimal pain during treatment and recovery, and nearly no down time.
- Laser Ablation. Our doctors use tiny laser fibers under ultrasound guidance to close varicose veins. The procedure takes under an hour, and patients return home virtually pain-free.
- Ultrasound Guided Chemical Ablation. This is a treatment that can be used for deeper veins that can’t be reached with laser therapy. A concentrated FDA-approved chemical is injected into the vein and then the vein is sealed off. The vein walls stick to themselves, diverting the blood into healthy vein channels.
- Sclerotherapy. This is the most common treatment for spider and varicose veins. A solution is injected into the vein to cause the veins to seal shut and turn into scar tissue. The vein should fade within a few weeks.
